Tyshaun Chapman is a righty with a rocket who recently relieved for the rookie-level Royals.

In July of 2019 Kansas City signed this smokeballer to a minor league deal.

By that point, he'd wrapped up his senior season at University of Northwestern Ohio by pitching 7.1 innings as the closer, tossing 18 strikeouts and giving him an absolutely absurd 22.1 K/9 rate. Weigh that against eight walks, not to mention he only allowed two earned runs.

Chapman stayed in town and jumped right into summer ball, where the masterful Michigander struck out 13 hitters in six innings. It made his K/9 a slightly smaller 19.5. He only walked four batters during his six-game stint in Lima, Ohio.

It ended because, clearly, Kansas City called, so the six-foot-two-inch reliever rode out to the desert. Chapman's stay in the Arizona League was short, his strikeout standard stayed stellar. In 5.1 innings of work, he winged nine strikeouts, and that was good for a 15.9 K/9 rate.

His walk total was also nine, for the record, but overall, Chapman performed pretty well.

Even so, he got let go. That's The Show biz, I suppose.

In '21, the Pontiac native drove to Billings for a season his second season of pro ball: this time, in the Pioneer League.

To that point, Chapman had pitched 34 career innings, at least according to Baseball Reference. As a Mustang, he threw 51.1 innings: all in relief, most in late relief.

His mid-90s fastball plays well in that role. Really any role, for that matter, and he filled a few of them. Chapman chipped in just an out or two in 10 outings last season, but he also pitched longer than three innings three different times too.

As the year went on, he solidified himself in that late relief role. Overall, he closed the game in 27 of his 40 appearances.

His last 21 appearances of '21, adding up to 22 innings, was the fireballer's finest stretch all season. He earned all four of his saves for the season during that span. In the process, he struck out 22 batters compared to just eight walks.

These days, Chapman's chomping at the bit to mix it up with Pioneer League batters again. A four-pitch mix that heavily features his fastball could help him reach it this season with the Owlz.
